Umbral

Umbral is a first-person adventure game that explores the dark consequences of suicide. Players embody Matheus, a young man who, after committing suicide, finds himself trapped in a nightmarish realm called Umbral. This indie game combines elements of horror, exploration and puzzle solving to create a unique storytelling experience. The game’s plot takes inspiration from Kardecist spiritualism and Umbanda, exploring spiritual concepts and the consequences of Mateus actions.

As players progress through Umbral, they encounter terrifying situations and hostile environments, forcing themselves to confront a reality even more brutal than the one Matheus left behind. Gameplay focuses on solving the mystery that Mateus has gotten himself into through exploration, interacting with objects, and solving puzzles. Elements of horror are evident through enemy chases and jump scares, adding tension to the narrative. The game Umbral is designed for 90 minutes — 2 hours and is a concise but intense journey into the afterlife, created by a small team of two people.
