Description
A Merchants Promise places the player in a stylized medieval setting centered on commerce and transportation through direct physical handling of items. The player begins as a Worthless Merchant, tasked with manually moving cargo using a physics-based system. There is no traditional inventory; each object must be picked up, carried, and placed, creating a constant risk of dropping or even throwing the cargo. Advancement involves increasing the Merchant's Status, which directly affects communication and potential profit in the title's economy.
In A Merchants Promise, achieving success requires careful handling of goods and overcoming the difficulties of the world. The merchant's status determines their ability to effectively negotiate prices to maximize the profit from each transaction. For those looking for more risk, there is a Permadeath option that significantly increases the stakes. In addition, gamers are faced with environmental factors such as weather, the possibility of losing items during transportation, and basic needs: hunger, thirst, health, stamina.
The project encourages independent immersion in its setting, intentionally reducing interface elements and explicit hints. Pop-up goals or specific assignments do not guide the player's actions. Instead, understanding the setting and finding paths to development depends entirely on human initiative through exploration, communication with characters, reading texts, and direct interaction with objects. This approach creates gameplay focused on discovery and learning through experience. This game requires attention to detail.
