Windward Horizon immerses players in a vast open world focused on exploration and naval combat. As a captain unaligned with any faction, players embark on a journey across a unique map, randomly generated with each playthrough. The game offers freedom of choice: trade, complete quests, search for treasure, or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of a peaceful sea voyage. Windward Horizon can be played solo or co-op. The ability to explore the world alone or with friends allows each player to tailor the gameplay to their preferences. Trading with different factions, completing quests, or searching for treasure all add variety to the gameplay. Those who prefer a more relaxed approach can simply explore the open waters without engaging in combat.

A key feature of the title is the dynamic impact of player actions on the world. Cities and provinces require resources for their development, and providing these resources can aid one leader but also jeopardize the interests of other factions. Your decisions can change the political situation in the region, even without resorting to force. The main focus is on ship customization. Every gamer can build a vessel that suits their playstyle, whether it's a powerful armored vessel or a fast long-range attack vessel. A talent system allows you to improve your abilities in three areas: defense, attack, or support. As you progress in the game, you can hire a crew and unlock new, more powerful ships, giving you the opportunity to become a truly legendary captain with a unique fleet.
