DarkStone Restoration

DarkStone Restoration is a solo remake of the iconic 1999 action RPG by Paul Cuisset, bringing the gothic dungeon crawler to modern PCs without losing its original feel. Choose from eight heroes across four classes—warrior, mage, thief, and priest to find seven crystals needed to create the Sphere of Time and prevent the dragon Draak from plunging the kingdom of Uma into darkness. The game features randomly generated dungeons, quests, monsters, and loot across five difficulty levels, as well as dozens of weapons, spells, and talents to unlock. The new "Partner Mode" allows direct control of your companion during combat by holding a button, while couch co-op with a shared world allows two players to adventure together using a single save file a significant improvement over the original game's online-only multiplayer mode.

The updated version includes 64-bit support, auto-aim controller support, a redesigned spell bar system, improved inventory management with automatic item pickup and quick equip, and modernized graphics with dynamic shadows and volumetric fog. Legacy Mode preserves the authentic 1999 gaming experience for fans of the classics. The game is currently in Early Access with a full single-player campaign available; development plans include a 4-player online multiplayer mode, a quest editor, and potential new quests for the updated version based on community feedback. Originally created by a four-person team in 1999 as one of the first fully 3D action RPGs, this restoration aims to deliver the definitive version Darkstone always deserved.
