Description
Some work orders come with paperwork. This one comes with a warning. OKUGAFUCHI Shopping Arcade is a first person exploration horror game from DorsalFin Studio, developed and published by the studio, and it begins not with a monster but with an unreasonable instruction from a powerful landowner.
The protagonist is a meek real estate company employee who cannot refuse the order. His task: enter the abandoned Okugafuchi Shopping Street and carry out a certain ritual ahead of the planned redevelopment. The place has a history, because a string of bizarre suicides once plagued these arcades, and the story wastes no time proving that history never left. The ritual refuses to go as planned, and the ghost of a woman searching for something haunts the ruins with him.
The investigation unfolds through the classic tools of quiet horror. Documents and notes left behind in shuttered shops become a map of the truth, and every fragment brings the protagonist closer to the legend of Okugafuchi and what really happened there. The game trusts players to piece the story together from what remains, and fear works as punctuation rather than as the whole sentence.
The setting earns its own paragraph. The environments are created based on real shopping streets and abandoned buildings in Japan, and that foundation shows in every corridor: the aged signage, the dusty storefronts, the silence under fluorescent light. The place feels discovered rather than designed, and that authenticity is what turns exploration into unease.
For players who love atmosphere but hate scares, the game includes a Ruins Exploration Mode. Horror elements are removed entirely, leaving free wandering, changeable times of day, and even an in game camera for photographing the abandoned scenery. The same ruins, two very different heart rates, and roughly twenty three hours of gameplay give both sides room to breathe.
OKUGAFUCHI Shopping Arcade suits fans of Japanese horror, real world locations, and stories told through what people leave behind. Bring a flashlight, follow the paper trail, and finish the ritual, if the arcade agrees.
