The Sinking City 2

The Sinking City 2 is a survival horror title from developer Frogwares that returns to the flooded city of Arkham. The sequel pushes the series deeper into horror, with fewer detective tools and a stronger focus on staying alive.

Press previews have been strong. Rock Paper Shotgun calls it a Cthulhu survival horror that might rival Resident Evil and Silent Hill. PC Gamer says the shift to survival horror is genuine and the game feels truly unsettling. GamesRadar describes the atmosphere as wet, slippery and deliciously gruesome.

Water is the main obstacle. Large parts of the city sit under dark floodwater, and moving between districts takes time and planning. Supplies are limited, so every trip into the ruined streets must count. Ammo does not grow on trees, and open combat is often the wrong answer.

Dread builds slowly. Enemies emerge from the fog without warning, and running is a valid tactic. The game rewards caution over heroics. Listening, checking corners and knowing when to retreat matter as much as aiming.

Resource management sits at the core of the loop. Health kits, bullets and tools are scarce, and the player decides what to carry before leaving a safe spot. That constant math between risk and reward keeps the tension alive even when nothing is on screen.

Frogwares knows this world well. The studio spent years building stories in Lovecraft territory, and that experience shows in the setting. Rotting facades, silent streets and the constant sound of water keep the pressure on from the first minutes.

The current version is the 17 August 2026 build, tagged Build 24671220. It is a full release of the game, packed in an ISO image and ready to install. Frogwares publishes the title on Steam, so updates arrive through the usual channels.

Horror fans looking for atmosphere with substance should pay attention. The Sinking City 2 keeps the identity of the series while sharpening the fear, and early impressions say the studio delivered.
