Rogue Eclipse

Rogue Eclipse is a spaceflight action roguelike from developer HUSKRAFTS, published together with Outersloth. The game takes the speed of arcade space shooters and puts it inside a larger sci fi story.

The player is a pilot on the front lines of a war for the future of humanity. Runs end in death, and death sends the pilot back for another attempt. Each try builds on the previous one, and the campaign narrative unfolds across multiple runs rather than in a single straight line.

Combat is fast. Starfighters swarm in waves, armadas press from all sides, and colossal behemoth warships test the pilots skills. Boosting at terminal velocity into pitched battles is a normal part of the flow, and the speed of the action stays high throughout.

The roguelike loop keeps the stakes clear. Equipment improves as the pilot progresses, and upgrades can be applied on the fly between encounters. Customizing the starfighter is part of the preparation for the next dive into enemy space.

Environments are destructible. Blasting through scenery is as valid as shooting ships, and the level of destruction adds to the spectacle of each battle. Huge enemy structures can be delved into and torn apart from the inside.

The setting draws on Arabesque Futurism, which gives the game a visual identity that stands apart from typical space shooters. The story plays out as a high stakes space opera, with each battle bringing the pilot closer to the nemesis.

The controls are approachable, but mastery takes time. The game is easy to pick up and hard to put down, with the difficulty curve rising as the armadas get heavier.
