The 24th century promised humanity the stars, and for a time the Federation of Earth delivered on that promise, colonizing distant worlds. Then came the catastrophe on Velia, and the dream curdled into war. Operation Matriarchy, a science fiction first person shooter developed by Madia Entertainment and published by ESDigital Games, tells the story of the conflict that followed.

Around the year 2350 a mysterious virus struck the colony of Velia. It attacked only women, twisting them into aggressive killing machines, while the men were enslaved as resources for genetic experiments. The infected colonists fused into a hostile hive mind and declared war on the Federation. Seven years into the conflict, you take the role of Senior Sergeant Paul Armstrong, a Federation soldier whose ship comes under Velian attack and who must now carry the fight to the enemy without hesitation.

Classic first person gunplay drives the campaign forward. You push deeper into the planet, breaking wave after wave of Velian warriors while piecing together the truth behind the anomaly and the origins of the human race itself. Positioning and ammunition discipline decide each engagement, as the enemy attacks without pause and the battleground shifts between ship corridors and alien constructions on the hostile surface of the colony world.

The story runs its full course with a defined beginning and ending, which suits players who like structured single player campaigns. A grim universe, a hero with personal stakes, and relentless firefights against an enemy that never loses its fury make this a strong pick for fans of dark space opera and classic shooter design alike. Secrets worth uncovering wait at every step of the campaign. The Federation needs soldiers who can think as well as shoot, and Armstrong learns both lessons the hard way. Seven years of war have taught the Federation little except that the Velians never stop coming, and that lesson shapes every mission.
