Hope against smog is the heart of Ventreville A Cure for Sorrow, a text based point and click adventure from developer and publisher Spicy Bread Productions LLC. Its first chapter carries the title A Tale of Tall Men, and it tells a coming of age story set in an industrial fantasy world. The story follows Orven, an eighteen year old who seems to have everything: his hero, his city, and his ideals. The hero is the esteemed Ret Avidine, and Orven looks up to him as the chapter opens. But when Ret's project fails, the ground shifts under the young man's feet, and he must come into his own adulthood.

What follows is a run of difficult decisions. Orven moves through a punishing healthcare system that pits his welfare against his goodness, and every step asks what he is willing to give up. There are no easy answers here, and the game refuses to soften the cost of doing the right thing. The game places the weight of these moments directly on the player, whose choices decide whether his hope can break through the pervasive smog.
