Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin — is a platformer for PC and PS4 with farming elements. The game was developed by the Japanese studio Edelweiss, the developers of games such as Astebreed or Fairy Bloom Freesia. The English version was made by XSEED Games. The action takes place in a fantastic version of medieval Japan. We play as the titled Sakuna, the goddess of the harvest, who, together with a group of people, is exiled to a mysterious island inhabited by demons. The heroine must defeat the beasts and create a new home for herself and her followers. The plot is largely borrowed from Japanese folklore the authors have made a lot of efforts to reliably reflect local legends and myths.

We spend most of our time in missions, done in the style known from 2D platformers. Players explore large, partially exposed maps, overcome obstacles, fight enemies, and sometimes solve puzzles. As befits the goddess of the harvest, Sakuna uses mainly agricultural implements as weapons. She also has a magic scarf that works like a hook.

We return to our home in the mountains, which serves as our base. There we cook food and make armor. Planting rice and harvesting when it is ripe is key. During the campaign, the heroine slowly learns new fighting skills and masters more and more advanced farming methods. The platformer sections in Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin are completely 2D, but the graphics were done in 3D. The authors chose a style reminiscent of Japanese cartoons.
