WARNO

WARNO is a new strategy RTS game from the veterans of the studio Eugen Systems, responsible for the Wargame series and the unforgettable RUSE. The production is described as the spiritual heir to the above positions. WARNO will present a fictional story from the late 20th century. In 1987, a coup detat led by hardened communists overthrew the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev who actually held the post until 1991. This contributed to the continuation of the Cold War, the armies of NATO and the Warsaw Pact were stationed in Germany, divided by the Berlin Wall, in anticipation.

About This Game

There are six factions available in WARNO — the United States, West Germany, Great Britain and France, part of NATO, the Soviet Union and East Germany, part of the Warsaw Pact. In their composition, you can command such legendary formations as the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment the so-called black horses and the 3rd Infantry Division of the United States, the 5th Armored Division of the Bundeswehr, the Soviet 79th Guards Armored and 27th Guards motorized rifle division, as well as the 7th armored division of the GDR. Each of them can serve as the lead division of our army, which we control down to the platoon level.

WARNO is powered by the IRIS Zoom Engine, a proprietary engine developed by Eugen Systems and already used in RUSE. However, it has been significantly improved to keep the game up to modern standards. To increase realism, the developers, for example, improved the rendering technology of the terrain, as well as created new 3D assets, providing, among other things, more accurate and diverse unit models. The changes are especially noticeable in the damage system — when our troops take damage, individual units lose some of their equipment; sometimes it even causes the ammo magazine to explode, which in turn can cause the destruction of a nearby structure. Vehicle malfunctions are also detailed a helicopter can lose blades, and an airplane can lose a wing. Explosions also look impressive, leaving craters of various sizes. This makes the battlefields not only pleasing to the eye, but also provides many tactical options for example, we can use smoke as a natural cover for our troops. We can also use hills, small villages, dense forests, meandering rivers, bridges and industrial areas.
