TANKOCRACY

TANKOCRACY is a tanky top-down shooter. The player collects his tank squad and completes contracts. Bosses, destructibility and other whistles are present. As you might guess, the game is made in 3D. No newfangled ready-made assets. Everything is modeled by hand. In one helmet. These games were very different from their more arcade counterparts. In them, the player was sent to a spacious location, given control of a helicopter or a huge robot, and offered to complete a couple of tasks. The player was given relative freedom of action, a wide space for maneuver and tactics. General hardcore and limited ammo made me study the map, think through my actions in advance. Well, the highlight here was a kind of physics because of which the technique behaved quite convincingly and realistically. Tried to transfer all the good moments from these games to my project.

About This Game

In TANKOCRACY there are open locations that give complete freedom of movement. The physics also correspond to the references. The equipment in the game behaves realistically, its weight is felt. Ballistics, damage model, various principles of projectile action, a wide variety of types of equipment all this only emphasizes the seriousness of local cabbage soup. There are no HP bars in Tankocracy, the damage model is modular, allowing for one-shots, similar to the one from War Thunder. The main thing is to choose the right ammunition.

But there were also disadvantages in the chosen genre, and, strange as it may seem, they proceeded from the advantages. Large open locations with free movement make it impossible to balance the saturation of the content that falls out on the player, because the latter could move in many routes. And if in more linear arcades you can strictly dose the saturation of the gameplay, then here the player can get into where they don’t need to and get more than they need. Most often, this problem is solved by level design. Points of interest are scattered on the map, in which the main gameplay is concentrated. A gaping void is left between these points so that the player has time to rest and think.
