Description
The game Acceptable Losses is a dark and intense historical military strategy game about World War One where you become a staff officer behind the lines. In this game you do not take part in combat personally but instead command whole squads of soldiers directly from your safe headquarters behind the front line. The main plot tells about the difficult daily routine of command throughout a brutal twenty day campaign. The core moral dilemma is that you have to execute strict orders from higher management daily while balancing between saving the lives of your men and achieving military goals at any cost.
The gameplay is completely split into day and night phases that require focus and strategic planning from you. During the day you assign squads to various dangerous tasks like trench repairs scouting area patrols or direct assaults on enemy positions. At night the time comes for paperwork where you must study intelligence briefings medical reports about the wounded and sign official forms. The main mechanic of the game is tied to controlling the fatigue cohesion levels and morale of your men because if your statistics drop too low the soldiers will refuse to fight and the command will hold you responsible for the failure.
