Realms of Madness delivers the dark fantasy RTS experience players have been craving, successfully blending intricate resource management with thrilling, large scale warfare. Robin van der Horst realizes the core fantasy of commanding vast, terrifying armies where true victory requires not just military might, but mastery over the environment itself. The gameplay system is defined by its highly asymmetrical factions. Each race plays fundamentally differently, from the defensive, building focused human remnants to the aggressive, rapidly mutating insectoid horde. The unique mechanic is the Resource Corruption system. Certain resources generate immense power but inherently degrade the surrounding terrain and your own units over time. Successfully managing this corruption using it against your enemies without destroying your own supply lines is the central strategic challenge. Progression is tied to unlocking unique Legendary Units, monstrous single entities that require massive investment but can single handedly turn the tide of a major battle.

The developer has implemented several balance refinements and introduced a highly challenging cooperative scenario mode in the latest version of the game. For veterans who demand deep, punishing Strategy where strategic foresight trumps simple unit spam, this is an essential title.
