The unique mechanic is the Blood Contamination meter. The longer the player remains outside designated safe zones, or the more damage they take from infected enemies, the faster this meter rises. High contamination levels trigger debilitating physical side effects, forcing players to prioritize finding rare purification serums and seeking immediate shelter. Progression is tied to upgrading the rudimentary fortifications of your small base camp. Crafting better defensive structures, building resource gathering facilities, and discovering new, more potent survival tools are essential for extending your reach into the more dangerous corners of the world.

The latest version of the game introduced cooperative elements allowing up to four players to tackle the campaign together, sharing resources and defense duties.
