Back in the Swamp is about silently exploring a shattered reality, requiring the player to pay utmost attention to the details of the environment to solve spatial puzzles. The project is completely devoid of traditional text narration and voiced dialogue. Instead of traditional hints, progression is based on discovered sketches. Hovering the mouse over objects activates animations signaling the presence of hidden items. Collected loot is added to the inventory, allowing further combinations of artifacts to create new tools. Placing specific items in specific locations triggers a chain reaction of necessary events. This approach forces players to meticulously examine every inch of the surrounding space.

Successful completion of logical puzzles is rewarded with cinematic cutscenes that open access to uncharted territories. Historical narratives are reconstructed by searching for scattered diary pages with graphic illustrations. This is how Back in the Swamp uncovers the dark secrets of its retrofuturistic universe. The events unfold amidst post-apocalyptic swamps, which have become the new home of gigantic arthropods. These mutated creatures are accompanied by abandoned mechanisms from a bygone era. The first-person perspective guarantees deep immersion in the oppressive atmosphere of mysterious ruins. A realistic soundtrack greatly enhances the feeling of absolute loneliness in the forgotten wasteland.
