Isle of Maligree strands you on a fog covered island where the dead do not rest and the living cannot leave. Developed and published by Gilded Rune Games for release in 2024 this visual novel horror RPG adventure game follows a group of shipwreck survivors who discover the island has a dark history. You play as each survivor at different points making choices that affect who lives and who perishes. The visual novel segments drive the story while RPG elements track your sanity health and resources. Combat is rare and brutal you cannot fight the island horrors only delay them.
The latest version of the game introduces a branching narrative with over twenty endings based on which survivors you save and which secrets you uncover. Visual novel sequences feature hand painted backgrounds and character portraits that change as injuries accumulate. Horror is atmospheric with sound design that uses whispers and distant screams. RPG mechanics include a sanity meter that causes hallucinations blurring reality. Adventure exploration includes solving environmental puzzles finding hidden shrines and decoding ancient texts. For fans of psychological horror and choice driven stories you can download the game on PC and Nintendo Switch.
