Winter Survivor Protocol throws you into a relentless frozen wilderness where a failed climate experiment has plunged the world into an eternal winter. Developed and published by RECAST for release in 2026, this adventure RPG simulation open world survival game follows a scientist searching for a lost research team that vanished during the initial catastrophe. You explore a vast, snow covered landscape of abandoned bunkers, frozen forests, and cracked ice fields. The latest version of the game introduces a dynamic frostbite system that affects your movement and dexterity if you stay exposed too long, forcing you to balance exploration with finding shelter.
Survival mechanics are harsh but fair, you must manage your core temperature, hunger, thirst, and fatigue. RPG elements include skill trees for scavenging, hunting, crafting, and first aid, each level unlocking new recipes and abilities. Open world exploration rewards you with hidden shelters, survivor camps, and clues about the experiment that went wrong. Simulation depth tracks your gear condition, from torn parkas to dull hatchets, and even your mental state, with prolonged isolation causing hallucinations. You can also build and upgrade a mobile cabin that serves as your base. For fans of The Long Dark and Frostpunk, you can download the game on PC and consoles.
