Grim Trials

Avelin died young, and the afterlife handed her a scythe. In Grim Trials, a heavy metal action roguelite from Glory Jam, published by Soft Source, she joins the ranks of Death's Reapers and fights to earn her way back to the one she loves.

Her task is to hunt down impure souls, face her own demons, and survive an underworld of her own making. Only by enduring these trials can she become a full fledged Reaper and see her still living love once again.

Battles play out across endless hex grid arenas packed with monsters, traps, and sinful souls. Seven sacrilegious bosses stand between Avelin and her goal, each demanding a different approach.

Combat is built around dual wielded weapons. Customizable scythes and crossbows work together through a system that rewards clever switching, and powerful Blessings from the Gods of Death add another layer to every fight.

Crafting turns the spoils of battle into the tools of the trade. Materials gathered from the field are brought back to mentors in the arcane arts, who help forge stronger weapons, armor, and consumables for the next run.

Every Reaper carves a different path. Crafted equipment mixes with skills chosen from an expansive skill tree at the start of each run, and randomized Blessings found along the way shape builds that never repeat twice.

Between runs, The Academy serves as home base. It is built for the training and arming of Death's various Reapers, and its denizens offer quests, mentorship, and the stories of the dead.

Progress is permanent in one important way: when Avelin falls, her experience and materials stay with her. Live, fight, die, and live again, over and over, until the promise is kept.

Coming of age in the afterlife was never the plan, but dying means little to the already dead, and love unyielding wields power no god can rival.
