About This Game

The story starts in the usual scenario for the Monster Hunter series: another anomaly occurred, due to which a flock of local wyverns left their native lands and fled in an unknown direction. Our guide talks about the incident to the commander in chief, after which he gathers a new expedition in a matter of minutes. On a huge airship we reach the shores of a new continent. Frosty expanse — this time the hunters will not only solve the riddle of the behavior of monsters, but also explore the previously unseen lands.

However, we will be honest: the plot in Monster Hunter is written with one single purpose — to introduce the player to new mechanics and monsters. And I am pleased to report that there are so many of them in Iceborne that for someone the storyline company will probably drag on for a good fifty hours. Upon arrival on the snowy mainland, the conditions of survival completely change: we are given a fur suit that is designed to warm the hunter during the trip, but in fact it is almost useless. Winter on the new continent is so harsh that with the slightest freezing, the hero begins to lose stamina — even if he has not yet left the camp. So the new warming drink is quickly becoming one of the most popular potions along with the usual «cure» and antidotes.

In addition, it is much more difficult to navigate through snowy locations, and this significantly reduces the pace of map exploration. But then there is time to admire the landscapes: the eye is delighted with a huge forest, where peacefully grazing popo (a local analogue of bison), hot springs, ice caves, frozen lakes, creepy monster caves — in short, the designers tried their best. The local nature looks no worse than in Horizon Zero Dawn The Frozen Wilds. And so that the players do not get tired of wading through the snow for their two, they added a new mechanic: traveling on monsters. Unfortunately, you cannot control creatures on your own — you can only indicate the route on the map. But on the back of a wyvern, moving is still much faster and more convenient than with a normal run: while riding, you can use objects, create new ones, and also use a whetstone.
